Description
This position is under the Recreation Development Department, located at the Frank Buck Zoo, and under the supervision of the Zoo Retail Manager. Employee will perform a wide variety of general clerical, retail, and maintenance duties; provide courteous customer service and professional, effective and efficient service assistance to department and the public.

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
- Provide customer service to Zoo Retail patrons and Zoo visitors.
- Answer the telephone and assist callers in a professional and courteous manner.
- Assist in the set up and maintain retail shop, restrooms, dining deck, kitchen, merchandise storage, and front entrance of the Frank Buck Zoo.
- Maintain daily, weekly and monthly revenue records for the zoo retail shop and ticket booth; responsible for money collected from sales and daily deposits.
- Responsible for making daily deposits of revenues and accounts receivables at the bank.
- Assist in the order and stocking of retail and concessions merchandise; inventory merchandise as required.
- Assist in the inventory of products and supplies as required.
- General maintenance of zoo retail shop, restrooms, dining deck, kitchen, merchandise storage, and front entrance of the zoo.
- Perform bookkeeping activities as required.
- Zoo retail shop hours may vary; weekends are required.
- Maintain a courteous and professional attitude at all times.
- Monitor guest while in and around zoo retail shop.
Additional Duties:
- Participate in special events.
- Sell concessions and merchandise outdoors (on zoo grounds, at city events, in Leonard Park, etc.)
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- Basic report preparation.
- Principles and procedures of record keeping.
- Basic principles of merchandising.
- Department policies and procedures and specified policies and procedures for zoo retail shop operations.
- Basic bookkeeping practices.
- Basic mathematics as applied to bookkeeping.
- English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Courteous and proper public contact.
- Emergency procedures.
Ability to:
- Prepare clear and accurate documents and reports.
- Professionally communicate with zoo staff regarding programs, events and visitor concerns.
- Prioritize and organize various assignments in order to produce efficient results.
- Understand, communicate and follow written and oral instructions.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Provide appropriate responses to inquiries from department head and staff.
- Develop opportunities for new revenues through product research, marketing and pricing strategies.

Experience:
One (1) year of general retail experience.
License(s)/Certification(s):
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
