Description
This position is under the Zoo Department, located at the Frank Buck Zoo, and under the supervision of the Zoo Director. Employee will be responsible for the supervision of retail staff, perform a wide variety of general clerical, retail, and maintenance duties, provide professional, effective and efficient service assistance to department and the public.

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
- Manage Retail operations of the Frank Buck Zoo.
- Market, promote and maintain retail shop.
- Responsible for maintaining all retail and concessions building equipment and arranging for repairs as needed.
- Develop and maintain SOP’s for the operation of all procedures and equipment.
- Maintain daily, weekly and monthly revenue records and expenses for the zoo retail shop and ticket booth; responsible for money collected from sales and daily bank deposits.
- Responsible for making daily deposits of revenues and accounts receivables at the bank.
- Responsible for the order and stocking of retail and concessions merchandise; inventory merchandise as required.
- Conduct and record inventory of supplies quarterly or as necessary.
- General maintenance and cleaning of zoo bathrooms, concessions, dining deck, and retail shop, including floor displays.
- Zoo retail shop hours may vary; weekends special events required.
- Maintain a courteous and professional attitude during radio transmissions, staff interactions, volunteer and public interaction at all times.
- Monitor guest while in and around zoo retail and concessions areas.
- Effectively communicate with Zoo Grounds and Keeper staff pertinent information, such as events, emergencies, severe weather, etc.
- Serve as a working supervisor over retail and concessions staff and provide functional training and technical guidance to subordinate staff.
- Participate in selection of staff as requested; provide staff training as necessary; evaluate employee performance as required; documents corrective and disciplinary action as necessary; and work with employees to correct deficiencies.
- Attend and participate in supervisory training as necessary or requested.
Additional Duties:
- Take an active role in special events planning and execution.
- Create and market birthday party celebrations at the zoo.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- Basic report preparation.
- Principles and procedures of record keeping.
- Basic principles of merchandising.
- Basic food handler requirements and concession type operations.
- Department policies and procedures and specified policies and procedures for zoo retail shop operations.
- Basic bookkeeping practices.
- Basic mathematics as applied to bookkeeping.
- English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Courteous and proper public contact.
- Emergency policies and procedures.
Ability to:
- Supervise and train subordinate staff as needed.
- Prepare clear and accurate documents and reports.
- Prioritize and organize various assignments in order to produce efficient results.
- Understand, communicate and follow written and oral instructions.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Provide appropriate responses to inquiries from department head and staff.
- Develop opportunities for new revenues through product research, marketing and pricing strategies.
- Work weekends and holidays.
Experience and Training Guidelines:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Two (2) years of general retail experience. Retail management experience preferred, but not required.
License(s)/Certification(s):
- Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
- Possession of a food handler permit, or must obtain within six weeks of employment.
