What are the responsibilities and job description for the Airport Line Technician position at City of Gainesville?
To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance and repair of Airport facilities. Provide assistance and information to the general public. Performs routine tasks and duties assigned by the Airport Director. Perform work associated with fueling operations regarding fuel trucks and aircraft. A person in this position is required to maintain a flexible work schedule which includes weekends.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
- Wash and clean sidewalks at airport facilities.
- Repair and maintain inside and outside airport terminal facilities; use various chemicals and cleaners to sanitize public areas.
- Repair and maintain all restroom facilities; use various chemicals to sanitize restroom facilities.
- Participate in landscaping areas; mow and trim lawns; trim vegetation; apply herbicides and pesticides.
- Participate in chipping wood; collect fallen limbs in airport areas.
- Maintain all equipment assigned to Division.
- Perform aviation fuel test and quality control inspections.
- Refuel aircraft.
- Repair and maintain City-owned aircraft storage hangers.
- Maintain a fuel farm to include prompt response time to customers after hours for fueling of aircraft with Avgas and JetA fuel.
- Be available to answer the Unicon and Airport customers and visitors, provide information concerning weather conditions and runway use, assist with fueling procedures, answer questions and provide information regarding the Airport and businesses located on Airport grounds in an efficient, effective and courteous manner.
Additional Duties:
- Represents the City and Airport when Director is not present.
- Input information in various computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and other software programs when necessary.
- Maintain a variety of records and applicable information including hangar rental, fuel records, and monthly invoicing.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Operation and use of a variety of tools and equipment
Ability to:
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Learn proper lifting techniques for minimizing physical injury.
- Learn the operation of a variety of tools, machinery and equipment relevant to work assignments.
- Perform physical requirements of the job.
- Perform work in an undesirable or hazardous environment including inclement weather, confined spaces, improper illumination and traffic.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Maintain a pleasant demeanor and attire.
- Learn proper techniques and operations of aircraft fuel trucks.
- Learn proper techniques and operations of fueling aircraft.
- Learn proper techniques for towing aircraft.
Experience and Training Guidelines:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Experience in building and/or grounds maintenance, airport operations or other similar work.
Education/Training:
- Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
- Fuel testing and quality control techniques, aircraft refueling, airport operations, aircraft towing and parking desirable but will train on-the-job.
License(s)/Certification(s):
- Possession of a valid driver's license is required.
- Must have ability to obtain Class A CDL when requested by Supervisor.
