Responsible for assisting in the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of City of Gainesville’s parks and other public properties.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
- Operates light to medium equipment such as various types of mowers and light to medium trucks to perform various tasks
- Performs various duties using chain saws, weed-eaters, ditchers, small equipment and hand tools
- Inspects equipment, park structures and playgrounds for safety compliance
- Performs minor construction and park facility repairs
- Performs public service functions during storms and inclement weather such as ice and high water
- Responds to after-hours callouts for high water, storm damage, and ice and snow removal/control when necessary
- Inspects equipment before and after use; performs minor maintenance activities and reports exceptional problems to the Crew Leader
- Plants, fertilizes, cultivates, and irrigates lawns, turf, trees, shrubs, and flowers; mows trims, edges, and fertilizes lawns; prunes and sprays trees and shrubs
- Removes leaves and litter from parks
- Performs custodial duties to park restrooms, pavilions, concessions, and other park areas and facilities
- Assembles special equipment for use by the public, installs signs, barriers, and parking bumpers
- Assembles and places seasonal decorations and special event advertisements in parks and other public areas throughout the City and also the breakdown and storage of same
- Participates in maintaining proper storage of all Parks equipment, supplies and decorations
- Performs operations support for special events
- Works sporting events and other special events after hours and weekends as directed
Additional Duties:
- Performs general maintenance and construction of parks including, but not limited to playground maintenance and tree work
- Perform related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Operation and use of a variety of tools and equipment
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Understand and follow verbal and written instructions
- Form and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, customers and those contacted in the course of work
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance
- Work a flexible schedule and/or overtime to include working evenings, nights and/or weekends as required
- Perform physical requirements of the job
- Perform work in an undesirable or hazardous conditions including inclement weather, confined spaces, improper illumination and traffic
Experience and Training Guidelines:
Any combination of education, experience, licenses and certifications that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
