Looking for a fun summer job that you'll never forget? The City of Gaithersburg’s Arts Barn is in need of a Summer Camp Manager for its 2025 Summer Camp Program operated through the City's Department of Parks, Recreation & Culture. Gaithersburg's Art Barn Summer Camp Program consists of eight weeks of visual and performing arts camps for children ages 5 to 16.
The Summer Camp Manager will provide onsite leadership of the Arts Barn’s summer camp program. They will work directly with Arts Barn staff, volunteers and campers, to maintain and manage a safe, secure, and enjoyable atmosphere for all.
- Applicants must be available to work weekdays from June 23 through August 15, 2025, for approximately 35 hours per week.
- Camp hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:30am – 3:30pm. An exact schedule will be determined after hire.
- Applicants must also be able to attend all training sessions and planning meetings with the Arts Barn’s Education Program Coordinator, totaling approximately 20 hours from June 2 – June 20, 2025.
- Training times are flexible and will be scheduled after hire.
- This position is an independent contractor, the salary range is $6,000 - $7,500, depending on experience and qualifications.
Job Functions
The Summer Camp Manager will:
- Provide overall supervision of camp operation, campers, and counselors.
- Ensure the camp facility is safe and secure and that all are participating in an appropriate manner.
- Assist instructors and counselors to maintain a clean camp facility by sweeping, mopping, and collecting and disposing of trash.
- Assist instructors and counselors to locate necessary supplies and equipment throughout the day.
- Ensure that equipment and supplies are functioning properly and are kept in an orderly fashion.
- Maintain camper information, and communicate needed information with instructors and staff.
- Provide a thorough and appropriate level of communication with parents, camp staff, and facility staff, while on-site.
- Serve as a model for and promote responsible behavior and high standards of safety.
Qualifications
What you will need to be considered:
- All applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be 18 years or older.
- All applicants must have at least two years of previous paid experience working with youth, enjoy working with children and be able to work directly with teen volunteers in a leadership capacity.
- All applicants must be responsible, dependable, adaptable, and punctual; be able to make quick and sound decisions.
- All applicants must possess a high level of maturity and be able to communicate with children, parents, and other staff in a positive, courteous, tactful, and professional manner.
- All applicants must be safety conscious and committed to providing a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for all participants.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification is preferred.
- Moderate physical effort is required; must be able to lift/carry materials up to 50 pounds infrequently. Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.
Any acceptable equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
