Description
Applications are being accepted for part-time instructors to teach offered through the City of Gaithersburg This recruitment will establish an eligibility list that will be used to fill vacant instructor positions for current recreation classes as well as instructors for new classes that may be created based on operational needs.
We are seeking applicants who have skill and experience teaching classes in areas such as (but not limited to) tai chi, drumming fitness, singing / drama / acting (and possibly starting a singing group or acting / drama club), dance (including cultural dances such as Latin, West African, folk dances, etc.), kick boxing, self defense, languages, Mahjong, personal training, or any other specific class that would fall under the topic of "recreation" or "leisure activities"!
As an instructor, you will teach and supervise safe classes, programs, and / or workshops. Please specify in your application materials the age levels you are qualified to teach (pre-school, youth, teens, adults, and / or seniors). Previous experience teaching classes may be required; certification from a nationally recognized organization is preferred. We're looking for individuals who are professional, enthusiastic, motivational, and able to work positively and supportively with people of varying abilities. Classes are offered quarterly and are scheduled approximately four months in advance. Classes are scheduled based on instructor and space availability prior to the schedule being published. Hours per week varies depending on classes instructed and operational needs. Some scheduling flexibility (daytime, evening, weekends) may be available.
Starting hourly rate is negotiable within the range ($17.15 to $50.00 per hour) and will be offered at a level consistent with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. Direct deposit of paychecks is a condition of employment for all City of Gaithersburg employees.

- Teach and supervise safe group classes, programs, and / or workshops that engage and educate participants.
- Provide positive reinforcement and encourage a fun and supportive atmosphere.
- Demonstrate safe and proper techniques, provide instruction in specific skills, and assist participants with improvement and safe progression appropriate to the class.
- Outline and plan class activities within City guidelines.
- Prepare and monitor the classroom for safety; ensure all equipment is available and functioning properly.
- Provide outstanding service, pursue continuous improvement, and exceed expectations.
