General Definition of Work
Performs semiskilled work maintaining and repairing parks, ball fields, playground equipment, buildings and facilities, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Facilities Coordinator and Parks and Recreation Director.

Essential Functions
Prepares multiple athletic fields for playing; measures, drags, strings out and paints lines; rakes fields to appropriate surface.
Mows grass, edges sidewalks and curbs, trims trees and shrubs, spreads mulch; sews grass seed; aerates grass areas.
Performs minor maintenance and repairs on park equipment and buildings; notifies appropriate personnel of further maintenance and repair needs.
Sets up for and breaks down following various parties, events and activities.
Performs general custodial duties; vacuums, sweeps, mops, cleans bathrooms and windows; removes trash.
Keeps the marquee at the theater current on dates of shows and events; prepares stage according to event; runs sound and lighting for events.
Maintains inventory of and stocks concession items.
Prepares gymnasiums for various programs.
Drives passenger van to various destinations for programs; serves as emergency driver in inclement weather and as required; arranges for appropriate maintenance and repair of vehicle and equipment.
Supervises assigned personnel and community service workers; directs and inspects the work of and trains assigned personnel.
Maintains access areas to department facilities; ensures entryways are free of moisture; assists with snow removal and ice control.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in general maintenance work; general knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools and techniques of the standard building trades; general knowledge of safety precautions applicable to the duties of the class; general knowledge of the methods used in the preparation of baseball and softball fields; ability to understand and follow instructions; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in the performance of maintenance and repair work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms, frequently requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing and lifting and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to vibration and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
Special Requirements
Possession of first aid and CPR certifications within six months of employment.
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Pay: $28,400.00 - $34,200.00 per year
