General Definition of Work
Performs basic skilled technical work participating in the preparation and maintenance of the public golf course, operations and maintenance of City owned cemeteries, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Golf Course/Cemetery Facilities Manager.

Essential Functions
Maintenance of golf course grounds, fairways, tees and greens, irrigation and water systems.
Maintenance and operations of City owned cemeteries.
General grass cutting, and bush clearing, the cutting, aeration, dressing and watering of greens with specialized equipment, the repair of irrigation systems, and the preparation and application of specialized chemicals, fertilizers, and soil enrichment materials.
General grass cutting at City owned cemeteries.
Assists with golf course and City owned cemetery building and facilities maintenance; Performs work at the clubhouse during the off season or as needed that includes supervising rental parties, collection of fees, and daily deposits.
Participates in building new tees and greens, building and maintaining flower beds.
Assists with repair of property damage.
Assists with the maintenance of cemetery plot ownership records.
Assists public in selection of cemetery plots.
Performs maintenance work on golf course and cemetery equipment and machinery.
Assists with landscape maintenance of City properties, to include mulching, pruning, and mowing.
Operates golf course and cemetery equipment in connection with the above tasks.
Drives and operates various vehicles and equipment such as skid-steer, front end loader and tractor.
Assists with pushing snow when needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to learn and understand the principles, methods, materials and practices used in golf course and cemetery maintenance; knowledge of turf diseases and the chemicals necessary to treat same; ability to analyze soil conditions and devise a formula to correct unhealthy conditions; ability to prepare reports and maintain records; skill in the operation of golf course equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED. Prefer experience in turf management and landscaping, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work frequently requires walking and occasionally requires standing, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to vibration and wearing a self contained breathing apparatus; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements
Possession of, or ability to obtain pesticide spray technician certificate within one year, and pesticide commercial application certificate within two years of employment.
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia, prefer possession of, or ability to obtain commercial driver’s license.

Pay: $27,040.00 - $34,200.00 per year
