Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the Animal Protection Supervisor incumbent responds to calls and performs a variety of duties related to the capture impoundment and disposal of domestic and wild animals. Investigates complaints of animal bites and ensures that animals suspected to be carriers of rabies or other diseases are properly quarantined. Impounds injured and strayed animals that are causing community disturbances or complaints. Informs animal owners of responsibility to control and vaccinate in accordance to prevailing statutes laws and ordinances. Cites animal owners for violations and non-compliance files complaints through the court system and makes court appearances as necessary. Maintains records and collects fees. Ensures assigned vehicle is cleaned and serviced at proper intervals. Periodically serves as desk officer at the animal shelter and may be called upon to conduct tours of the premises. Performs other related duties as assigned.Additional Information
STARTING HOURLY PAY: $18.92 p/hMINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s License (state of residence) that meets City’s insurability requirements.
- Must pass written examination with 70% or better.
- Must pass oral board interview must score 70% or better.
Other Conditions:
- Must pass a background check.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two (2) years experience in working with animal or Veterinary Clinic
- CPR Certification Animal Control certificate from the State of New Mexico
