The City of Garden City is accepting applications for a Custodian with the Recreation Department. This position involves advanced technical tasks related to the cleaning and maintenance of Recreation facilities. It requires specialized knowledge and skills to complete assignments efficiently and collaborating with colleagues, various departments and divisions, as well as external organizations and agencies, to deliver effective and innovative services.
Education, Certification and Experience: High school diploma or GED. Two years of experience in custodial duties including stripping and waxing tiled floors, stripping and refinishing wood floors, maintaining carpeted floors to include spotting, and proper scrubbing maintenance. Valid Driver's License required. Must obtain a Kansas Driver’s License within 60 days of establishing residency.Environment: Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
Physical Characteristics: Ability to lift 20-50 pounds. On occasion, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, turning, wiping, washing, crouching, carrying, siting, standing, and walking.
- Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the facilities that are utilized by the Parks and Recreation Departments.
- Review work of contract workers in progress or upon completion to ensure that quantity and quality of work are acceptable.
- Perform complex and technical cleaning and maintenance duties.
- Work on-site and perform all duties required; operate all cleaning and maintenance equipment utilized by staff.
- Perform routine inspections of plumbing, carpeting, lights, windows, ceiling tiles, doors, and mechanical equipment.
- As needed, lift and carry tables and chairs for room set-ups for meetings and special events.
- Inventory supplies, obtain price quotes, and order cleaning equipment and supplies for Recreation Buildings.
- Ensure all buildings are locked and secured as needed.
- Maintain a variety of records and logs. Prepare daily, monthly, and yearly activity reports.
