Animal Control Officer - Full Time
The Animal Control Officer is responsible for the enforcement of the City ordinances, Hubbardston, Ashburnham and Westminster Town bylaws and the Massachusetts General Laws related to the control of dogs and other animals.
Duties And Responsibilities
Knowledge of City ordinances, Hubbardston, Ashburnham and Westminster bylaws and state and federal laws pertaining to animal control. Basic computer skills, including ability to work with Word and Excel applications as well as Police Department CAD System – IMC database reporting system. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with the general public as well as with other City and Commonwealth officials.
Special Requirements
Must have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license. Must be available to overtime and weekends. ACOM Certification preferred, however will provide training.

Animal Control Officer - Full Time
The Animal Control Officer is responsible for the enforcement of the City ordinances, Hubbardston, Ashburnham and Westminster Town bylaws and the Massachusetts General Laws related to the control of dogs and other animals.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Ensures that public safety remains a top priority by and through the enforcement of licensing and rabies vaccination control regulations.
- Specifically responsible for investigating animal bites to determine whether or not members of the general public have been exposed to rabies or disease and then take appropriate measures to address any exposures.
- Responsible for impoundment, care and disposition of unclaimed animals.
- Evaluates impounded animals to determine if medical care is appropriate and arranges for said medical care.
- Responsible for taking, investigating and resolving citizen complaints as they relate to dogs and other animals. This includes data entry into the Police Department computer reporting database system.
- Removes deceased animals from public roadways and sidewalks and arranges for proper disposal.
- Responds to requests by Law Enforcement Officers to assist with situations involving the removal of animals from unsafe environments or crime scenes.
- Will issue owner violations and will assist the appropriate City Officials through the hearing process and in the issuance of a final disposition on said violations.
- All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chief of Police or their designee.
