Fifth Member Position on the Gardner Retirement Board
The Gardner Retirement Board is seeking qualified applicant for the Fifth Board Member position of the Gardner Retirmenet Board. In accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 32 section 20(4)(b), the Fifth Member shall not be an employee, retiree, or official of the City of Gardner and shall be chosen by the other four Board Members, for a 3-year term commencing on July 1, 2025.
The five-member Board acts as fiduciaries of the Gardner Retirement System and performs their duties solely in the interest of its members and beneficiaries in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, the rules and regulations promulgated by the Public Employee Retirment Administration Commission (PERAC) and the rules and regulations adopted by the Retirement Board. The Board oversees the administration of approximately 800 active, retired, and inactive members. The day-to-day administration is conducted by the Board Administrator. Board members are paid a yearly stipend of $3,500.
The Board normally meets once a month, generally on the last Tuesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. Board members are required to:

- File an Annual Statement of Financial Interest with PERAC detailing personal assets
- Complete Conflict of Interest and Ethics training biannually
- Develop knowledge of Massachusetts Open Meeting Law
- Develop knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 32
- Attend Meetings, seminars and educational training as necessary
- Complete 18 hours of training in all three-year spans during their term to continue to serve on the Board.
