What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Control Officer position at City Of Gary?
Division: Animal Control Reports to: Commander of Special Ops
Status: Full-Time Salary: $40,000
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Enforces City, State and Federal laws relating to animals
- Apprehends stray, unleashed or vicious animals or reptiles, respond to bite cases, assists in euthanization of animals and prepares written reports
- Assist in all kennel duties including but not limited to weekend duties on a rotating basis
- Must possess and maintain a valid Indiana Driver’s License
- Successful completion of a 40-hour pre-basic law enforcement course (after employment)
- Successful completion of a 200-hour NACA academy (after employment)
- Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing and must demonstrate the ability to learn new tasks
- Must gain proficiency in software systems used by the Police Department within thirty (30) days of hire
- Must maintain confidentiality regarding information learned in the course of their duties
- Perform additional duties as required
