What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Worker (Streets Division) position at City of Geneva?
The City of Geneva is seeking a Street Maintenance Worker to join our team in the Streets Division at Public Works. This position handles maintenance and repair functions for roadways; parkways; landscape and hardscape; signs; trees, and cemetery grounds. They also assist the department with seasonal operations such as special event set-up and breakdown, as well as snow and ice removal.
Essential Job Functions
Including but not limited to:
- Maintains accessible roadways and sidewalks by mowing, weed whipping and tree pruning, as well as brick and cement work.
- Maintains City parkways by planting, pruning and removing trees and branches.
- Installs and repairs irrigation systems.
- Performs maintenance and repair to pavement, asphalt and concrete.
- Performs snow and ice removal from streets and sidewalks.
- Assists crews with set-up, break-down and clean-up operations for special events throughout the City.
- Installs and repairs street signs and pavement markings/striping.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent. Three years of manual labor experience, including working with heavy machinery and handheld equipment is preferred. Prior snow removal experience is preferred. Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job will be considered.
- Valid drivers license with clean driving record is required. CDL Class A must be obtained within probationary period.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Special Requirements: If offered the position, employees must reside within a 16-mile radius of the City of Geneva within one year of employment.
Schedule
This position primarily works Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Overtime/on-call as required.

The starting salary for this position is $24.03 per hour under the current IBEW collective bargaining agreement.
