What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staking Technician position at City of Georgetown?
The City of Georgetown is now accepting applications for the position of Staking Technician. The Staking Technician is responsible for designing and staking electrical distribution lines and facilities. The Staking Technician meets with customers, prepares cost estimates, staking sheets, procures necessary construction permits, landowner right-of way easements and administers necessary service application documents. The staking technician manages all GIS functions and mapping systems. Reports to Director of Electric Utility.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Ensure that power line system construction and improvement plans are properly completed.
- Preparing and verifying the accuracy of designs for line extensions, conversions, retirements, relocations, replacements and joint use make ready evaluations.
- Preparing accurate construction unit summaries and project cost estimates using available technology (design software, GPS and other data collection equipment).
- Performing the field surveying and the staking of jobs in accordance with the rules and regulations set forth by the City of Georgetown and NESC.
- Providing necessary information so that contracts, agreements, easements, and permits can be prepared.
- Providing necessary information to assist with verifying the accuracy of documents and information utilized to close work orders. Providing information to facilitate research regarding County and State records for easements, crossing permits and rights-of-way.
- Providing accurate information to assist with the inspection and verification of construction work for compliance with staking sheets and other applicable standards, codes, plans, and specifications.
- May be required to Serve as a liaison between the city of Georgetown and contractors. Including monitoring work and final inspections.
- Assisting the Director of Electric Operations with the preparation of construction material specifications.
- May be required to oversee contractors and manage projects
- May be required to attend training/Educational programs associated with position
- All other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent; a degree or certification in logistics or a related field is a plus.
- Proven experience in electric distribution systems.
- Strong knowledge of GIS, mapping, work order, and software systems.
- Leadership and supervisory skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
- Must possess class D driver's license, CDL would be a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
WORK ENVIRONMENT The Staking Technician primarily works in a field setting, with other time in an office environment. This role may require occasional overtime, especially during peak periods or emergencies. |
