GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
The Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a part-time, seasonal Youth Basketball League Coordinator responsible for assisting in the organization, coordination, and implementation of the Youth Basketball League that focuses on providing social, athletic and recreational activities to facilitate personal growth and strengthen the bond between student, school and community. The successful candidate must be well organized to manage multiple activities taking place at the same time at different locations and work to achieve the highest possible customer satisfaction and participation rates. Typical duties include:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assist with organizing, implementing and evaluating the Youth Basketball League
Assist in recruiting, training and supervising volunteer coaches
Communicate with coaches, parents and participants maintaining collaborative relationships
Create, organize and conduct orientation meetings for coaches
Develop team rosters and game/practice schedules
Provide on-site coordination and supervision of league and tournament events
Monitor games and activities; resolve any conflicts that may arise regarding activities; and interpret rules and mediate protests as needed
Inspect conditions of facilities; ensure proper care and storage of equipment, transport equipment to facilities as required
Collect activity and registration records
Set up and take down equipment required for games and practices
Assist in the development and distribution of marketing and promotions for the league
Compile program statistics. Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of the league and program participation
Monitors activities and facilities to ensure safety of program participants
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of programming and administration of athletic and recreation activities
Knowledge of rules, objectives and regulations of basketball and competitive games
Knowledge of rules and regulations and tournament bracketing governing various games.
Ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly and tactfully
Ability to resolve conflicts quickly, discreetly and effectively
Ability to interact and communicate effectively with students, staff, school administrators and the general public
Ability to maintain professional composure while dealing with a variety of personalities and situations
Physical ability to perform job duties, including ability to lift 50 pounds
CPR/AED Certification or ability to obtain
Valid Driver’s License
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Up to one year of experience in a sports/recreation setting including supervising sports programs or activities; and some college hours working toward a degree in Recreation Management or related field.
Schedule: Up to 25 hours per week including nights and weekends during the school year (November – March)
Salary : $31,200
