GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Under general supervision of the Parks and Public Spaces Manager, supervise and coordinates activities of semi-skilled/skilled maintenance workers in the maintenance and management of all sports fields throughout the City of Germantown. Plan and assign tasks in compliance to the Parks Maintenance Plan. Provide technical assistance to employees. Monitor work in progress and inspect completed work for conformance to work standards. Participate in the work of subordinates.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is outdoors in all weather conditions. Work requires lifting heavy objects, as much as 50 lbs. a distance of four feet from the ground. Work assignments may require stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling in awkward positions and standing for extended periods of time. Some tasks may expose workers to harmful materials or chemicals, fumes, odors, loud noise, or dangerous machinery. Must wear all safety equipment in accordance with safety regulations.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Valid Commercial Driver’s License required or the ability to secure within the first 6 months of employment. Sports Field Manager Certification preferred or complete within one year of employment. CO3 Applicator Certification preferred.

- Coordinate the work of crews engaged in performing any combination of the following duties to include but, not limited to: turf management to include IPM program and fertilization program; sports field lining; dirt infield maintenance on baseball and softball fields; leaf, limb, and litter removal; synthetic turf maintenance; irrigation system maintenance and management; and repairing or replacing fencing around fields.
- Supervise employees evaluating work performance, park assessment scores, safety training, and compliance with the Park Maintenance Plan standards.
- Plan, schedule and assign sports field maintenance based on the field and light schedule.
- Plan, schedule and assign daily work projects and report on daily and weekly schedules to the Parks and Public Spaces Manager.
- Supervise the upkeep and maintenance of sports field maintenance equipment and monitor inventory levels for supplies and equipment, ensuring timely restocking and replacements.
- Provide guidance and training to ensure excellence everyday standards while producing A results
- Operate tools and equipment used in sports field maintenance including but not limited to zero-turn mowers, blowers, sweepers, aerators, topdressers, tractors with various attachments. .
- Recommend measures to improve department operations and suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of the department.
- Upon approval of the Parks and Public Spaces Manager, order supplies from the city warehouse or various vendors and maintain an inventory of supplies and materials on hand.
- Resolve citizen’s inquiries and complaints within 48 hours for urgent complaints and 5-days for non-emergency complaints.
- Clear snow and apply ice melt material when weather demands it.
- May assist with other department activities or City sponsored events not under direct responsibility.
- Perform related tasks as required.
- Through knowledge of materials, methods, and techniques commonly used in construction, maintenance and repair activities as related to assigned areas in sports field maintenance.
- Knowledge of standard safety practices and precautions applicable to area supervised.
- Skill in communicating in writing and/or in person on a one-on-one basis for the purpose of influencing, motivating and convincing.
- Skill in operating tools and equipment used in sports field maintenance.
- Ability to complete basic mathematical calculations
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive material in a highly professional manner.
- Ability to plan and schedule the work of others.
- Ability to work independently and to plan and organize projects.
