Description
School Crossing Guards are seasonal employees that work during the school calendar year to control vehicular traffic and pedestrians in school zones. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the School Resource Officer Lieutenant and assigned School Resource Officer. Employees are responsible for getting children safely to and from school, requiring the employee to work a split shift, morning and afternoon with time off in between.

Examples of Duties
- Control vehicular traffic and pedestrians in school zones in such a manner that school children or other pedestrians are not endangered when crossing the street, driveway, or intersections.
- Coordinate and time the stopping of vehicular traffic in such a way as not to cause congestion.
- Caution and/or report drivers who violate school crossings or pedestrian right-of-ways.
- Regularly check and report any questionable safety hazards that exist at or near assigned school crossing zone.
- In assigned crossing zone, establish a cooperative and working relationship with the school staff.
Qualifications
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English
- Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.
- Must be able to effectively communicate and deal with the public and school age children in a courteous and respectful manner.
- Must possess a general knowledge of pedestrian traffic rules as well as common traffic rules provided by state and city ordinances
- Self-motivated to perform duties safely and to be punctual and productive at all times
- Physical ability to perform essential job functions including ability to distinguish colors and hear adequately with high levels of background noise
- Must be available to work morning and afternoon shifts.
Requirements
High School Graduate. Must be at least 18 years of age and successfully pass background check and employee physical. Must possess a valid driver's license.

Working Conditions: Duties are performed outside, working in all types of weather conditions. Requires standing for extended periods of time with intermittently bending, twisting and reaching.
