The City of Gladstone is seeking a positive and multi-faceted individual for the position of Building Inspector; to be part of an excellent culture in the Community Development Department. Starting pay $21.86 - $33.22 per hour, DOQ; Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Benefits Eligible. Work schedule is Monday – Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Candidate should have experience in residential and commercial construction and/or inspections. The ability to examine architectural, civil, and structural plans and specifications ensuring that all building and related codes, policies, and ordinances are effectively and equitably enforced and administered is essential to the position. Candidates should have an International Code Council residential or commercial building inspector’s certification. They should be a problem-solver who keeps customer service at the forefront.
Primary duties include: performing varied complex inspection work in the enforcement of building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, energy, accessibility, safety, and related codes and regulations governing construction, alterations, repair, and use of buildings and structures; and performs related duties as required. Other representative duties include reviewing plans, processing permits applications, advising the public and design community on matters relating to construction and other code requirements; provide technical assistance to the building staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience in commercial/residential construction and/or inspections
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with the general public, contractors, architects, and other employees
- Must be capable of safely performing physical actions necessary to conduct inspections at, above, or below ground level of construction sites
- Must be able to perform all essential position functions under the working conditions described
- Working knowledge of building codes, a plus
- Previous experience as a municipal inspector, a plus
- International Code Council certifications, a plus
