What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Weigh Station Operator position at City of Glasgow?
Position Purpose
Under general direction, assists the Weigh Station Operator in the operation of the weigh scale at the city landfill.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties
- Operates the scales at the city landfill.
- Collects tipping fees for unloading.
- Makes routine mathematical calculations to determine weights.
- Collects and makes change for accurate fees.
- Maintains records and reports.
- Prepares monthly invoices.
- Monitors incoming waste to ensure compliance with permit.
- Ascertains disposition of unacceptable items.
- Enforces uncovered loads ordinance.
- Answers telephone and greets visitors.
- Cleans and maintains landfill entrance, scales, building, and surrounding area.
- Assists with the sorting and management of recyclables.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Training and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an equivalent GED certificate.
- Certification by an appropriate state environmental agency is desirable.
Special Requirements
- Possession of a valid driver’s license
- Ability to be bonded.
- Ability to successfully complete background and drug screenings.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing landfill operations and environmental regulations.
- Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures and computer equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the general public.
