The Role: | |
This is the second level in the Service Worker series. The Senior Service Worker Right of Way provides lead guidance over crews in the Right of Way Division. The ideal candidate for the role will have two years of experience in construction, maintenance, and repair work and/or in the operation of light, medium, and heavy equipment relative to the area of assignment. |

This position is a Grade 312 with an annual salary between $47,091 - $70,638. |

1. Leads, trains and reviews work of crews of service workers and volunteers within the assigned areas of responsibility.
2. Participates in and prioritizes work and decides what equipment and materials are needed to accomplish work assignments.
3. Monitors work under progress and upon completion for compliance with standards and with plans and directions.
4. Barricades and monitors the safety of work sites.
5. Explains and enforces rules and regulations that may pertain to safety, barricading, hazardous material and landfill operations.
6. Direction of traffic and operation of equipment.
7. Maintains daily work records and prepares oral and written statistical reports of work done, material used and time spent.
8. Operates various light, medium, heavy and specialized equipment and performs maintenance and minor repairs on the equipment.
9. Works with computers and application software for maintenance and management programs.
10. Keeps records and maintains an inventory of parts, supplies and equipment.
11. Investigates and resolves customer complaints.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Right of Way:
1. Leads crews performing tree trimming, irrigation and weed abatement activities for the division
2. Performs safety training and reporting procedures for crew members
3. Maintains licensing and certifications; researches pertinent courses offered for continuing education credits
4. Oversees preventative maintenance schedules for vehicles and equipment, and maintains parts inventory lists
5. Coordinates special projects such as tree, bush and ground cover planting; irrigation system replacements; transient camp removals.Two years of experience in construction, maintenance, and repair work and/or in the operation of light, medium, and heavy equipment relative to the area of assignment.
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.
Knowledge of:
- Rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to area of assignment
- Safety requirements and precautions
- Materials, tools, equipment, safety hazards and precautions common to the assigned area of responsibility
- Safety requirements and precautions including confined space entry procedures
- Computers and applicable data management and maintenance programs for area of responsibility

- Operate light, medium, and heavy equipment and to perform maintenance and minor repair on equipment.
- Lead crews of team members and oversee assigned installation and maintenance jobs ensuring that all work performed isdone to the highest standard and is timely.
Special Requirements
- This position is classified as safety-sensitive which requires candidates to successfully undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment. They will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy. A post-offer physical assessment is required. The City of Glendale will incur the cost of all required testing.
- Valid Arizona driver's license.
- Commercial Driver's License and endorsements.
- May be subject to call back, stand-by duty and rotating shifts.
- Arizona Restricted Use Pesticide Certification (preferred).
- Work Zone Certification.

Exposure to heavy traffic, hot weather and hazardous materials including hot asphalt, solvents, gas from sewer lines and gas, pipe and electrical lines.
