About Us:
The City of Glendale Parks and Recreation Department is split into two distinct areas:
  • The Parks Division manages and maintains all public parks, open spaces, trails, storm water retention basins, landscaping at municipal facilities and Thunderbird Conservation Park. The Division is also responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety and security of park and facility use.
  • The Recreation Division offers opportunities to enhance the social, physical, mental and economic health of our community through a variety of diverse recreation programs and facilities. Recreation programs and events are held at the Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center, the Glendale Adult Center, Historic Sahuaro Ranch, the five community centers and at basketball, tennis, skate courts and other recreation facilities throughout the city.
The Role:

As a Recreation Specialist, you will assist in implementing recreational programs and activities while ensuring compliance with safety guidelines and City policies. Responsibilities include preparing recreation facilities, managing reservations for meeting rooms, fields, and courts, and setting up necessary equipment such as sports gear, audiovisual systems, tables, chairs, and other recreational materials for scheduled events and activities. Additionally, you will provide guidance to program participants to enhance their overall experience.

This part-time position requires availability to work any day of the week, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Typical operating hours: 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Hours: Up to 30 hours per week, scheduled as needed
  • Hourly rate: $18.00
  • FLSA status: Non-exempt (eligible for overtime pay for hours worked over 40 per week)
  • Work locations: Sahuaro Ranch Park, Glendale Youth Sports Complex, Paseo Sports Complex, and Heroes Park
  • Sick Time:  Accrues at .034 hours per-hour-paid
Retirement:
This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
  • The current contribution rate is 12.27%.
  • Contributions are mandatory, and are collected each pay period.

1. This position will assist the Recreation Coordinators with sports leagues/tournaments, field reservations, and recreation programs
2. Responsibilities include supervising facilities or specific programs, setting up programs, and coordinating with volunteers
3. Assist in the programs of staff or volunteers; may plan, lead, train, direct and monitor duties related to programs
4. Perform on-site inspections and evaluations to ensure compliance with parks and recreation rules, regulations and city safety policies and procedures
5. Provide a general cleanup of grounds and facilities before/after programs
6. Provide front line customer service for participants, program, tournament, and spectators
7. Maintains awareness of new developments in the recreation field and offers suggestions to the Recreation Coordinator
8. Assist in preparation of marketing materials, schedules, and supporting documents/photos
9. Maintains inventory of custodial/sports supplies and submits needs to supervisor
10. Attends weekly and monthly meetings as requested by the supervisor
11. May assist in maintaining and keeping Sports Complex fields playable during and after tournaments
12. Performs other related duties as assigned

1. Highschool diploma or equivalency/Any combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work
2. Associates or bachelor's degree preferred
3. Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of hire. Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
4. Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Products and reservation type software is preferred.
