Responsible for patrolling the City of Glenn Heights to prevent, investigate, and detect criminal violations of federal, state, and local laws.
Job Summary:
The Police Officer is responsible for patrolling the City of Glenn Heights to prevent, investigate and detect criminal violations of federal, state, and local laws.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Essential duties and functions may include the following. Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the job's essential functions can be performed. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Prevents crime and enforces laws.
2. Operates patrol cars to observe violations of traffic laws and prevent crimes or disturbances of the peace.
3. Respond to radio dispatches, answer complaints, issue citations, and prepare reports.
4. Gathers information in criminal investigations; conducts investigative and other patrol functions and
5. Works with citizens to identify problems, utilize available resources to eliminate them, and reduce their impact on the community.
6. Conducts visual and audio surveillance for extended periods; conducts arrests and searches of people, vehicles, buildings, and large outdoor areas.
7. Pursues fleeing suspects and performs rescue operations.
8. Investigates crime scenes, takes photographs, and obtains fingerprints.
9. Arrest offenders and complete associated reports.
10. The processes of arresting suspects include taking photographs and obtaining a legible set of inked fingerprints.
11. Communicates with juveniles and adults by giving information and directions, mediating disputes, and advising on rights and processes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Comprehensive abilities in problem-solving, conflict management, and customer relations techniques
• Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Ability to develop and maintain a positive working relationship with staff, fellow employees, elected officials, supervisors, citizens, business, and community groups.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information and to comply with all record retention laws.
• Proficient skills to communicate clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing
• Proficient skills to load, unload, aim, and fire approved weapons from a variety of body positions under conditions of stress that justify the use of deadly force and at levels of proficiency prescribed in statutory
• Proficient skills in performing rescue functions in accidents, emergencies, and disasters, which include but are not limited to directing traffic for long periods in all types of weather conditions, administering emergency medical aid, lifting, dragging, and carrying people away from dangerous situations and securing and evacuating from particular areas
• Proficient understanding of all City safety rules and operating procedures

Minimum Qualifications:
• High School diploma or GED equivalent
• Must have a working knowledge of Federal, State, and Local Laws
• Basic certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education must be obtained before employment.
• No experience required. A minimum of two (2) years of experience is preferred working with principles of law enforcement or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the job's essential functions successfully.
Licenses and Certifications:
• Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License before employment.
• Basic certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education must be obtained before employment.Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

• Work requires stooping and climbing, lifting 100 pounds, standing, walking, sitting, twisting, pulling, pushing, and occasionally working in tight or confined areas.
• The Incumbent will be required to wear protective equipment, a gun, and a holster.
• Required to work some nights, weekends, and during extreme weather and emergencies.
• Operates a law enforcement vehicle during both the day and night in emergencies involving speeds over posted limits in congested traffic and in unsafe road conditions caused by fog, smoke, rain, ice, and snow.
