Job Summary:
Responsible for assisting with the management of the Police Department in protecting the lives and property of Glenn Heights.Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Essential duties and functions may include the following. Must possess required knowledge skills, abilities and experience and to be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Assists the Police Chief in managing the activities of the Police Department.
2. Serves as liaison with community groups and federal, state, county, and local law enforcement agencies; identifies Police Department needs and their relationship to community needs; develops and implements programs to meet those needs.
3. Manages Police Corporals, Detectives and Officers in coordinating programs and activities in the areas of citizen and property protection, crime investigation and prevention, safety, personnel policy and procedures.
4. Patrols and provides enforcement, detection and prevention under the laws of City, State and United States.
5. Develops crime scene investigation responses; testifies in legal proceedings; mediates complaints concerning police services.
6. Prepares documentation and reports for various activities unrelated to crime for department management.
7. Prepares and reviews crime reports and ensures they comply with legal and departmental procedures; inspects equipment for proper use and care.
8. Prepares and recommends annual budget to Police Chief; tracks and reports monthly variances to plan.
9. Reviews and revises Police Development policies and procedures; presents department policies and activities to officials of public and private agencies and the public to explain Police Department programs and actions.
10. Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates full-time staff; prepares performance evaluations, counsels and interviews employees’ on-the-job performance, investigates and resolves informal complaints, greivences and employee relations issues and takes necessary disciplinary action in accordance with City policies.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Supervises 0 exempt and twelve (12) non-exempt positions
• Supervises ten (10) positions directly; supervises four (4) positions indirectlyMinimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Police Administration, Criminal Justice or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job
• Five (5) years' experience working with principles of law enforcement or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job
• Two (2) years' supervisory experience
Licenses and Certifications:
• Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License prior to employment
• Must have intermediate Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) certification
Conditions of Employment:
• Must have no felony convictions
• Must have no convictions of Class A or Class B misdemeanors within the last five years
• Must not be on probation for any criminal offense above the grade of a Class C misdemeanor
• Must not have convictions for any family violence offense
• Must not have convictions for DWI in the past ten (10) years
• Cannot be on suspension for a breath test refusal
• Must not have not been prohibited by state or federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition
• Must not have not been prohibited by state or federal law from operating a motor vehicle within the past twenty four (24) months
• Must not be currently under indictment for any criminal offense
