Job Summary: Under the direction of the park superintendent, the landscaper manager is responsible for the creation, modification, and upkeep of the softscapes around every city owned building, city park, and right of way.
Essential Job Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential duties:
- Develop and implement comprehensive landscape management plans for all city-owned properties, including irrigation and other landscape features.
- Carry out the above plans by planting, pruning, weeding, and watering plants. This will also include mowing, fertilizing, aerating, and dethatching lawns as well as installing and maintaining patios, fences, retaining walls, etc.
- Manage budgets for equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Identify and implement sustainable landscaping practices
- Oversee the selection, purchase, and planting of trees, shrubs, and flowers.
- Manage and implement
- Maintain accurate records of all landscaping activities.
- Take ownership of all aspects of water management in the landscape
- Identify and diagnose diseases affecting turf and ornamental plants
- Confirm work is performed according to established safety and quality standards
- Use sound judgment regarding public and worker safety at all time but especially when work is being performed in high traffic areas and around other utilities
- Retrieve and input data from/into computerized systems
- Assist other city departments when needed.
- Coordinate with city staff and volunteer work force to complete larger tasks or tasks geared specifically for volunteers.
