Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Assistant City Administrator, the Community Engagement Director is a non-exempt position under FLSA which is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing community events and outreach initiatives that foster strong relationships between the City of Goddard and its neighbors, businesses, and stakeholders. The Director will work to enhance public awareness, participation, and engagement in City programs, services, and strategic initiatives. This role focuses on creating meaningful opportunities for community involvement, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring the public has a voice in City planning and decision-making. Additionally, the Director will serve as the Goddard Main Street Director, playing a vital role in the revitalization and preservation of the downtown district.
Primary Responsibilities
· Plan, coordinate, and execute key community events such as Fall Fest, National Night Out, Christmas on Main Street, Neighbors United, Main Street Markets, town halls, and public forums that foster community pride and participation
· Collaborate with the City’s staff to create and disseminate content (newsletters, social media, press releases, etc.) that keeps the public informed about City events, services, and programs
· Manage the City's social media platforms and online presence to foster two-way communication with residents
· Manage the City’s website to ensure all content and pages are current and aesthetically pleasing
· Direct inquiries from the public and media to the City Administrator’s Office, ensuring accurate and timely information sharing
· As the Goddard Main Street Director:
o Employ the four-point Main Street approach (Organization, Design, Promotion, and Economic Vitality) to revitalize Goddard’s downtown. This includes strategic planning, coordinating community input, and integrating preservation-based economic development tools
o Lead efforts to organize events and promotional activities that bring attention to the downtown area, including business-focused initiatives and civic events to increase engagement and foot traffic
o Work with the Goddard Main Street Board of Directors on implementing the various goals and objectives of the organization
· Performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned
Position Qualifications/Attributes
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, business, or hospitality management
· Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in community engagement, public relations, event planning, or a related field
· Skills:
o Strong communication and public speaking skills
o Event planning
o Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of community members and stakeholders
o Excellent project management and organizational and problem-solving skills
o Proficiency in social media, web communications, and public relations
o Knowledge of local government functions and civic engagement practices
o Passion for public service and community-building

Pay: $39,998.00 - $69,992.00 per year
