Position Overview
Under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor, the Lead Recreation Specialist is responsible for overseeing and facilitating a variety of engaging activities for children ages 3-14 years old. This position works collaboratively with a team of recreation leaders to develop, implement, and lead arts and crafts, games, sports, projects, storytelling, and outdoor-based activities.
The Lead Recreation Specialist ensures activities are age-appropriate and adaptable to meet the diverse needs, interests, and abilities of participants. Programs may include playground adventures, part-day recreation programs, sports and bike instruction, puppeteering, camps, and special events. Assignments are based on interest, ability, and availability.
Expected Hours of Work
Typical work hours are Monday-Thursday from 9am to 4:30pm. Addition hours may will include some Fridays, evenings, and Saturday mornings.

- Assist in the planning, organizing, and implementation of activities for all ages and all abilities in the assigned recreation program.
- Provides support as needed for all participants and staff to create an inclusive and equitable environment.
- Ensures that all participants and other program staff follow the established staff policies and procedures.
- Assists and participates in staff training, programs meetings, and leadership meetings- providing input and updates on programs, events, and services.
- Completes required reports, evaluations, and documentation for participants, that may include emergencies, incidents, feedback, or property damage.
- Provide onsite leadership and guidance to program staff to prepare for the program or event.
- Responsible for organizing and maintaining all program equipment, supplies, and program areas.
- Lead, delegate and assist in specific programs or activities as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have employee supervisory responsibilities. However, staff will oversee programs, participants, and facility users to ensure safety, enforcement of rules/regulations, and onsite leadership and guidance to program staff as needed.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to supervise, instruct, and relate with children successfully.
- Experience working with children.
- Possess knowledge, skills, and creativity required to organize youth activities.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Available to work late-May to mid-August without requests for extended time off.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Education, or related field.
- Prior experience working in the field(s) of parks and recreation or education.
- Experience with extended bike rides.
- Possess a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's license and have a good driving record.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors. Employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Employee is subject to noise, during events and activities, but generally free from additional work hazards.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information with others both in person and over the telephone. Staff will frequently read and interpret documents, including safety manuals and operating procedures. Will occasionally lift items weighing up to 25 pounds.

Salary : $14 - $19
