Position Overview
Individuals in this position work closely with the public to explain licensing procedures and requirements, and process requests. This individual performs a variety of detail-orientated tasks, including processing transactions, title registrations, renewals, and limited driver’s licenses.
Expected Hours of Work
Regular City Motor Vehicle hours are Monday-Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm and Friday. Hours may vary slightly based on the needs of the department.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform these essential functions:
- Provide top-level customer service at the motor vehicle license desk.
- Fulfill all motor vehicle transactions following federal, state, and city policies and using appropriate fee schedule.
- Collect customer payments and balance cash drawer, reconciling all reports.
- Process and issue permits, licenses, license plates, tab renewals, and registrations, ensuring all forms are complete and meet licensing requirements and routing applications to appropriate agencies for review and approval.
- Maintain all assigned inventory of plates, stickers, and transfer stamps.
- Respond to public inquiries, over the phone and in-person, on state statues, rules and regulations, as well as provide information on general City services, and direct visiting public to appropriate department in City Hall.
- Assist with office management of equipment and supplies.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have employee supervisory responsibilities.Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Two years of customer service work experience.
- Two years of professional cash-handling experience.
- Six months experience using MNDRIVE.
- Must become a "Certified Title and Registration Professional" by the State of Minnesota Driver and Vehicle Services Division within 12 months of starting employment. Maintain Certification while employed as a Motor Vehicle License Clerk.
- Ability to complete the essential duties and responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of/experience with Minnesota DVS and DNR titling and licensing practices and procedures.
- Experience interpreting and explaining state statues and rules/regulations.
- Experience working with computers and routine office equipment.
- Experience working with point-of-sales systems.
- Fluent in language(s) other than English.

Work is conducted primarily indoors. Employees in this position are subject to general office and front customer service noise, but generally free from work hazards.
