What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works - Seasonal Positions position at City of Golden Valley (MN)?
This position performs a variety of basic routine manual tasks involving construction, operations, maintenance, and repair of city infrastructure and spaces.
Expected Hours of WorkHours are typically Monday-Friday from 7 am to 3 pm. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform these essential functions:
- Park maintenance including general landscape, field maintenance, weeding, raking, watering, mowing, edging, shoveling, litter pick-up, cleaning and repairing grounds and other public facilities.
- Street maintenance including bituminous and concrete repair, traffic sign repair, tree trimming, and protecting the work site/directing traffic.
- Sanitary and Storm System maintenance including cleaning, inspecting, and repair.
- Water System maintenance including valve exercising and hydrant repair.
- Vehicle maintenance including oil changes and routine maintenance.
- Cross-train with Utilities, Parks, Streets, and Vehicle Maintenance Divisions.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications
- 18 years of age.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Experience with safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and both heavy and light construction and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to operate computer.
- Experience reading and navigating street maps.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Work is most often conducted outdoors, often under adverse weather conditions, and often within confined spaces. Exposure to hazardous conditions, including operating power tools and equipment, and toxic materials, including raw sewage and hot asphalt. Employee is subject to noise while operating equipment and general noises in outdoor city environments.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information with others both in person and over the telephone. The employee is often required to remain in a stationary position, and frequently operate both heavy and light equipment/tools consistently found in public city maintenance operations and/or construction. Staff will frequently read and interpret documents, including safety manuals and operating procedures. Staff will frequently traverse around the city, climb ladders, ditches and manholes, and move in confined spaces. Will frequently lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
