As a Seasonal Maintenance Worker for Horticulture, you will assist the Horticulture Technician with maintenance of the City’s perennial gardens, annual plant displays, and streetscapes.
This will include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Planting, transplanting, and maintaining planted material to include hand watering, deadheading, pruning, etc.
Mulching garden areas, performing weed control, and ensuring garden beds and surrounding areas are free of trash and debris
Maintenance of traffic islands, medians, and rights of way
Occasional Park related maintenance, including maintenance and repair of irrigation systems, and maintenance and placement of hardscaping
Operation of small gas-powered equipment and city vehicles
Provide positive and professional customer service to all residents and visitors
May work with volunteer groups and/or projects
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) preferred. Must have basic gardening experience to include knowledge of annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees. Basic knowledge of irrigation including drip line systems.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations to citizens, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must enjoy working outdoors and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Basic gardening and irrigation equipment.

Salary : $20 - $23
