Provides support to all aspects of golf course maintenance operations. Performs all routine golf course maintenance duties as well as troubleshoots, details, and critically reviews golf course presentation. This includes but is not limited to course maintenance, facility construction, landscape construction, janitorial support, equipment operation, and special event support. Will require some evenings and weekends. Provides training, support and direction to seasonal staff as assigned. Specific assignment or duties may vary based on department needs.
Sr. Maintenance Worker I: Entry level position
Sr. Maintenance Worker II: Performs semi-skilled to skilled tasks
Sr. Maintenance Worker III: Performs specialized skilled tasks. Has obtained Certified Applicator license from Colorado Dept. of Agriculture. See specific job descriptions for full details.
Studies golf course presentation daily to ensure that bunkers are raked, tee markers are set, cups are properly cut etc.
Operates maintenance equipment to maintain golf course landscaping, equipment includes walking/riding mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, aerifiers, and various hand tools and implements.
Applies fertilizers and chemicals within application guidelines and in adherence with safety protocols, and documents accordingly.
Topdresses course areas as directed by course superintendent.
Plants and maintains trees, shrubs, perennial beds, flower beds, and native plants.
Assists in the troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of the irrigation system.
Assists with landscape construction to include soil preparation, fine grading, sod/seed installation, shrubs, perennial and flower bed installation.
Responsible for repair and maintenance of restrooms, shelters, fences, and concrete work.
Responsible for snow removal in walkways, parking areas, and other areas as assigned.
Responsible for trash collection and removal on course, cart paths, drainage systems, and open space.
Uses handheld radio respectfully and professionally.
Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not formally supervise staff, but is expected to serve as a team lead and provides general guidance, oversight, and training to seasonal staff.
High school diploma or GED. Minimum experience as required by position includes skilled landscape maintenance such as mowing, edging, sprinkler installation/repair, plant and flower installation, etc.; landscape, construction, and equipment operation required as defined for each level of position. Must possess excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Sr. Golf Maintenance Worker I
Minimum 18 years of age. Golf course maintenance experience preferred.
- Sr. Golf Maintenance Worker II
Minimum 18 years of age. At least one year of service to Fossil Trace preferred. Minimum two years golf course maintenance experience, such as mowing, edging, sprinkler installation/repair, plant and flower installation, etc.; landscape, construction, and equipment operation required. Capable of all aspects of snow removal including utilizing snow blower and truck plow.
- Sr. Golf Maintenance Worker III
Minimum 18 years of age. At least one year of service to Fossil Trace preferred. Minimum three years’ skilled landscape maintenance such as mowing, edging, sprinkler installation/repair, plant and flower installation, landscape, construction, and equipment operation required. Capable of all aspects of snow removal.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Sr. Maintenance Worker I and II Current Colorado Dept. of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator License preferred.
- Sr. Maintenance Worker III Colorado dept. of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator License required.

Basic knowledge of golf course maintenance techniques and procedures including planting, irrigation, disease control, maintenance, construction, and repair work. Proficient use of general grounds maintenance tools and equipment. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
Fertilizers and chemicals, walk/riding mowers string trimmers, edgers, chain saws, tractors, three-point attachments, electrical power tools, pickup truck, loader, backhoe, snowplow, sprayers, compact tractors, sweepers, and miscellaneous other golf course maintenance equipment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to dig; rake; hammer; saw; drill; shovel; push; pull; stand; walk; use hands to hold, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to hot, dry, wet and/or humid conditions. Working conditions is primarily outside in golf course and native foothills setting. May require working and/or driving during inclement weather. Use of protective equipment as required.
