ABOUT THE POSITION
This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic team of civil servants in a fast-paced environment. In this position, the employee will be working with community members and staff in all mission areas of disaster management (prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery). The primary responsibilities will include : providing support to the division and coordinating in the mission areas of disaster management. Focus areas include : training volunteers, outreach events, and coordinating with external organizations. Multilingual abilities and experience in disasters or related experience / training are desirable.
Please note that this is a part-time (0.50 FTE) position, working primarily through the Monday-Friday workweek, but with occasional weekend and evening hours required.
ABOUT THE DIVISION
The City of Goleta's Emergency Management Program, a division of the Neighborhood Services Department, works to prepare the City and its residents and visitors in the event of disaster, ensuring that the City remains open for business during changing and uncertain times. The division works actively to prepare residents, visitors, and local businesses to respond to emergency situations, and it also oversees the City of Goleta's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program. DEFINITION
Under general direction of an assigned supervisor, coordinates and implements programs, activities, and special events within a specific program area; promotes those programs, classes, workshops, special and community events, sports, and special interest events; performs other related duties as assigned.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class perform intermediate level work and, within a framework of established procedures, are expected to perform a variety of technical duties with only occasional instruction or assistance. Employees in this class often have contact with the public and answer a variety of questions requiring knowledge of related departmental policies, procedures, forms, and precedents, and have the ability to choose among alternatives in solving problems. Work is occasionally reviewed upon completion for overall results.

- Makes recommendations on program operations; coordinates day-to-day program activities; may recruit, hire, train, and supervise the work of program staff and volunteers.
- Acts as a liaison with various community organizations.
- Provides information regarding programs to staff and members of the public.
- Maintains all program records; prepares written and oral reports as needed.
- Makes recommendations on operations and procedures.
- Provides exceptional customer service in representing the department and the City of Goleta.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
