JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under general supervision of the Tourism Director, responsible for promoting Goodlettsville as a destination by creating, administering and distributing images and stories through print and digital means. This position develops strategies, and coordinates projects and events that promote and strengthen the local community and economy to enhance the destination’s appeal. Projects may include public communication, customer service, digital media management, and advertisement creation. This position is also responsible for overseeing the Visitor’s Center Gift Shop. The employee must routinely use independent judgment when performing tasks in a fast-paced environment. Although this job is generally a day job during the week, there will be an occasional evening or weekend event that will require attendance.

EXAMPLES OF WORK TO BE PERFORMED:

  • Develop and implement social media campaigns for the department’s four accounts
  • Maintain content creation for execution of program marketing strategies
  • Assist with marketing and promotional information including printed material, website updates, and participating in public speaking opportunities as assigned.
  • Welcome walk-in visitors and help with any inquiries, listening to their questions and needs
  • Resolve procedural or operational issues by making judgment calls when problems arise with visitors or coworkers and determine when to escalate issues to Director
  • Assist in the ordering and displaying of merchandise in the Gift Shop for the most effective support of sales with changing of displays regularly
  • Coordinate the quarterly inventory of gift shop merchandise
  • Assist in setting up facilities and special event areas and any related tasks to ensure success of the program which may include serving as a backup historic interpreter when needed for school field trips
  • Serve as contact person for motor-coach tours including itinerary and package development
  • Foster relationships with Tourism partners to generate day-trip or weekend-trip opportunities; develop and manage a database of tourism prospects.
  • Create and format the layout of a newsletter and blog for tourism and events.
  • Create and distribute printed updates, notices, posters, and promotional material
  • Assist with content management of the website, Visit Widget, and social media accounts
  • Oversee the GOODVibes publication advertising and assist with content creation of same
  • Oversee distribution of Goodlettsville publications and marketing materials
  • Perform other assigned duties as required

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of tourism programming and marketing strategies
  • Willing to learn all aspects of managing and operating the Visitor’s Center Gift Shop
  • Proactive with ability to self-manage and work autonomously in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously with different deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate standard office equipment including PC
  • Proficiency with software packages including Windows 2000, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Office (including Word)
  • Skillful in editing and copywriting duties (i.e. for social media posts, comments, digital graphics, ads, etc.)
  • Ability to learn the software and all components used by the City (used for program registration, form application, and website)
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other departments, city officials, and the general public
  • Flexible, energetic, and outgoing personality
  • Self-starter, punctual, attentive to detail, and ability to work well with others and individually; Team player
  • Willing to provide a high level of customer service to all patrons
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including morning, evening, and weekends and some holidays

DESIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related area; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Experience and knowledge of current digital trends and social media platforms
  • Proficient in using marketing on-line tools (i.e. Canva, Photoshop), etc.
  • CPR certified preferred

Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; and interact with City staff, other organizations and the public.
