LATERAL POLICE OFFICER PROCESSING PROCEDURES :

Goodyear Police has implemented the iSWIFT process (Individually Scheduled Wiki Interview and Fitness Testing). iSWIFT allows applicants to work directly with the recruiting team to select interview and fitness testing dates that work around the applicant's schedule. Plus, initial interviews can be done either via online TEAMS meetings or in person, which is great for out-of-state applicants. This process isn't only convenient, it can expedite the hiring process by several weeks! Once the application is received and it is confirmed that the applicant meets the requirements for the position, a member of the recruiting team will contact the applicant to schedule an initial interview. If the applicant is selected to continue in the process, they will immediately begin the background process.
After your application and AZPOST information is collected, the information is screened against qualifications. If the candidate is successful a team member will reach out to you via email to schedule the virtual oral board interview. Step 2 :
ORAL BOARD PANEL INTERVIEW All qualified applicants will be interviewed and evaluated by an interview panel made up of, but not limited to, officers and employees of the police department. Applicants will be graded on their problem-solving abilities, interpersonal and communication skills, demeanor, and appearance. Those who pass will move on to step 3.
Step 3 :
Applicants will work with a background investigator to complete the following steps 3 through step 4.
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION After successful completion of the oral interview, applicants continuing in the process will be given a background packet to initiate the extensive background investigation.
POLYGRAPH EXAMINATION After successful completion of the background investigation, applicants will be given a polygraph examination administered by a qualified, state-licensed police polygraph examiner. The examination will cover criminal activity, drug usage, truthfulness, integrity and employment history.
PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION The psychological evaluation consists of two parts : a series of written tests and an interview with a certified psychologist.
CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE SCREENING AND MEDICAL EVALUATION Applicants will be required to submit to a controlled substance screening and medical examination.

All applicants will have a one-on-one interview with the Police Chief.
Step 4 :
FIREARMS QUALIFICATIONS
All lateral applicants will be required to demonstrate firearms proficiency by successfully passing the AZPOST daylight qualification course of fire.
PHYSICAL AGILITY EVALUATION (
The physical fitness evaluation is designed to give the applicant a chance to demonstrate his / her physical condition. The Goodyear Police Department uses the Police Officer Physical Aptitude Test (POPAT).All qualified applicants will be required to complete a liability waiver prior to participating in the physical agility evaluation. To proceed, the applicant needs to successfully pass the physical agility evaluation. The physical evaluation consists of the following :

All applicants must be 21 years of age by graduation of the academy; a citizen of the United States; have a valid Driver's License; and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
