What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Basketball Volunteer Coach position at City of Goodyear?
BRIEF COACH DESCRIPTION:
Help us serve the youth and make a difference in your community! Volunteers are an essential part of youth sports and we need you to help make our programs a success. Whether you have a child on the team or not, you are welcome to apply to become a volunteer in our youth sports programs.
The coaches meeting is May 15th, 6:00 – 7:00 PM at the Goodyear Recreation Center. The season begins the week of June 2 and runs for 7 weeks. Practices are held on Mondays or Tuesdays. Games for 5-6 coed and 7-8 coed are Thursday evenings starting June 12. Games for age groups 9 and up are Wednesday evenings starting June 11. All games and practices are held between 5:00-9:00 PM. This is a recreational program with equal playing time for all participants with an emphasis placed on having fun in a healthy and safe environment.

The benefits to becoming a volunteer coach are:
- A credit applied to your account after completion of season (resident rate of $90).
- The youth sports program has adopted a "Save 5" program rule, allowing coaches to save 5 players for their teams. Those 5 players must be registered for that season.
- Reserved indoor practice space at local Goodyear school gym and practice equipment
- Access to MOJO coaches app for drills, videos, and other resources
- Coaches Polo
- Ability to receive volunteer hours
- Coaches are expected to attend an in-person coaches meeting and are responsible for contacting their teams after the meeting and being in communication with parents throughout the season (via TeamSnap app, phone, text, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of the game, rules and the ability to demonstrate and communicate proper skills and drills.
- Ability to deal professionally and tactfully with players, their parents, other coaches, officials, spectators, and recreation staff.
- Develop and implement meaningful and instructive practice plans.
- Teach participants the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork.
- Teach participants the rules and regulations of the sport and program.
- Communicate with all stakeholders in the program including parents, players, recreation staff, and officials.
In order to ensure the safety of all participants, volunteer coaching requirements include:
- Applicant must be 18 years of age
- Submission of Volunteer Application and background check
- Abide by Code of Conduct
- Coaches Meeting: May 15th 6:00 – 7:00 PM at Goodyear Recreation Center
- Practices: Mondays or Tuesdays beginning June 2. Times vary from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm.
- Games: Wednesdays (ages 9 ) or Thursdays (ages 5-8) beginning June 11.
Salary : $90
