ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Create and design print and digital materials.
- Adhere to brand guidelines and complete projects according to deadlines.
- Retouch and manipulate images.
- Use graphic design software and work with a wide variety of media.
- Create foundational marketing projects for the city that can be used for a professional portfolio.
- Collaborate with and learn from the Public Information Officer and Marketing Manager to develop design concepts.
- Receives direction and guidance from the City Administrator, Assistant City Administrator, and Economic Development Director.
- Actively participate in the execution of the City's marketing plans, to include social media updates, video, and other multimedia.
- May be required to coordinate and direct activities of other staff members on project-related work.
- Provides customer service by providing information and directions as requested; completes routine office duties by answering phones, transferring calls and taking messages.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Must be currently enrolled in a related accredited school program, such as graphic design, digital media, or marketing major preferred.
- Basic knowledge of layouts, typography, color, and other graphic design fundamentals
- Some experience with InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Canva preferred.
- Strong creative and analytical skills
- Portfolio of graphic design work, preferred.
- Experience in an office setting, preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to provide quality customer service, including handling difficult customers.
- Ability to organize work and stay focused. Must be able to work with regular interruptions.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to use computers and various software programs, to include Word and Excel.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to multi-task.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work requires continuously sitting and talking as well as using vision to read written and electronic materials. Frequently requires use of hearing to participate in discussions and telephone conversations. Occasionally exerting up to 20 pounds of force to move objects and the following physical and fine dexterity abilities: handling, grasping, hearing, mental acuity, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The primary work location is typically performed in an office environment relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.
MENTAL DEMANDS
Frequently requires working closely with others as part of a team, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, and frequent change of tasks. Occasionally requires time pressures, tedious or exacting work, and irregular schedule/overtime.
