Under the supervision of the City of Goshen’s Director of Public Works and GIS Coordinator, the GIS and
Engineering Assistant will assist with data collection, curb ramp assessments for Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, and other special projects related to Public Works and Engineering.
This temporary summer position offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in Geographic
Information Systems (GIS), which is widely used across industries to maintain and conduct analysis of
spatial data. The City’s GIS system uses the industry standard ESRI technology platform to track assets
and support complex decision making.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are normal for this position but not all-inclusive.
➢ Organize, record, update, and ground-truth utility infrastructure data using ESRI’s ArcGIS
applications.
➢ Perform field work to gather GPS coordinates and other attribute data.
➢ Assess sidewalk curb ramps for ADA compliance.
➢ Practice excellent organization in maintaining data documentation.
➢ Prepare written reports, maps, diagrams, etc.
Minimum Training and Experience Required:
➢ High School Diploma, or equivalency; prior related work experience; or any equivalent combination
of education, training and experience which provides necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
➢ Ability to perform duties with limited supervision.
Preferred (not required) GIS Skills and Knowledge:
➢ Experience with one or more of the following ESRI programs: ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap, ArcGIS Online,
Field Maps, and other ESRI applications
➢ Field experience with GPS data entry
Special Requirements:
➢ Minimum 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license
➢ Ability to ride a bicycle.
➢ Willingness to work a flexible schedule when field activities warrant it.
➢ Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, rain)
Minimum Physical and Mental Abilities Required:
➢ Ability to utilize departmental equipment and tools including computers, vehicles, GIS software, GPS
units, etc.
➢ Ability to manage and resolve recurring problems.
➢ Ability to exert physical effort to walk on flat to uneven surfaces.
➢ Ability to exert physical effort in sedentary to light work involving routine stooping, kneeling,
crouching, and reaching.
Mathematical Ability:
➢ Ability to add, to subtract, multiply, divide, calculate decimals and percentages, calculate area,
calculate volume, and accurately measure with tape, wheel, and other devices.
Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication:
➢ Ability to accurately record and deliver information, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality of
restricted information.
➢ Ability to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, other City personnel, and the public
verbally and in writing.
Environmental Adaptability:
➢ Ability to work effectively in an office and field environment.
Rate of Pay:
Hourly – $18.90
Grade 7 as designated by current salary ordinance.
Work Hours:
Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Flexible hours)
