The wastewater division at the City of Grand Junction is responsible for managing and treating the City's wastewater. The Persigo wastewater treatment plant is the largest treatment works in the western rocky mountain region, with a capacity of 12.5 million gallons per day (mgd). This facility uses advanced technologies such as biotrickling filters for odor control, primary clarifiers, aeration basins, anaerobic digesters, UV disinfection, and an effluent diffuser to treat wastewater to a high standard.
The division has undertaken innovative projects such as developing renewable natural gas from wastewater treatment to be used as vehicle fuel, expanding treatment plant capacity, and developing biosolids beneficial reuse programs for the community.
The division is also responsible for maintaining and operating the extensive sewer network of the city and county, which includes over 600 miles of sewer lines and 26 lift stations. The 40 professionals in the wastewater division are organized into five teams: collections, operations, maintenance, laboratory, and industrial pretreatment. These teams work collaboratively to ensure that the city's wastewater is managed efficiently and effectively, with minimal impact on the environment.

- Supervise a dedicated team of 10 Utility Maintenance Technicians and provide guidance, training, goals, and performance feedback.
- Coordinate and prioritize operational activities to ensure optimal efficiency while meeting all workgroup objectives.
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment, machinery, and systems to identify maintenance needs and address them promptly.
- Manage the deployment and assignment of 6 crews operating two high pressure jetter trucks, two combination vacuum/jetter trucks, and two CCTV pipeline inspection trucks.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, standards, and safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of operational activities and operator log.
- Fulfill the role of Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) for the collection system and prepare and submit regulatory reports and notifications as required.
- Assist Wastewater Services Manager in the preparation and justification of annual budget for the collection’s workgroup.
- Keep abreast of industry developments, emerging technologies, and best practices in wastewater plant operations.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Four (4) years of experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of public works facilities including one (1) year of administrative or lead supervisory responsibility.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. supplemented by specialized training in maintenance, construction or a related field.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within one (1) year from date of hire, Collections and Distribution IV Certificate issued by the State of Colorado.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.
