Job Summary
The Utility Operations Supervisor is the first line supervisor responsible for the planning, organizing, scheduling, assigning, and directing of work associated with running the City's Water and Wastewater system. The purpose of this position is to supervise work projects, oversee staff, lead, assist, and train the City's Utilities dispatchers, operators, and crews ensuring project work is completed; and completing administrative duties. Other duties include responding to citizen inquiries or complaints; and completing departmentally specific functions.
Essential Job Functions
- Supervises personnel by monitoring work performance; scheduling work assignments; providing input on performance evaluation and making recommendations on hiring and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Formulates on-call schedules for staff and participates in the Supervisor on-call rotation schedule (with except for Administration Support).
- Always ensuring job site safety
- Coordination to restore site after job completion.
- Regular and consistent attendance and punctuality for the assigned work hours is essential.
- Assigns and approves overtime for weekends, holidays, and approves vacation, leave requests, and payroll worksheets.
- All other duties as assigned by a supervisor / manager within your department / division.
- Oversees repairs to hydrants, meters, and valves by isolating fire hydrant lead; exposing piping and assessing damages for repair; replacing or reinstalling parts; performing inspections prior to placing hydrant in service; exposing valve; isolating line segment; identifying problem; repairing valve back to operational level; and placing valve into the open position.
- Review of civil plans for new development and capital projects
- Oversees installation of new water and sewer tap service.
- Work with Geographic Information System (GIS) staff to update water and sewer maps.
