What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Quality Technician position at City of Grand Prairie?
The purpose of this position is to monitor water quality in the City in accordance with the Clean Water Act and The Safe Drinking Water Act. This is accomplished by completing environmental sampling; preparing reports and maintaining records; assisting with environmental investigations; and inspecting swimming pools. Other duties include performing vector control activities; completing cross connection inspections; and interacting with other City employees and citizens.
- Completes environmental sampling by collecting drinking water, wastewater, stream water, and soil samples; and analyzing for field parameters such as temperature, PH, chlorine, and ammonia.
- Prepares reports and maintains records by creating and maintaining chain of custody; entering samples into log books; and entering information onto water log sheet.
- Assists with environmental investigations by assisting specialists with complaints; monitoring of environmental pollution; and assisting in the collection of household hazardous waste.
- Inspects swimming pools by inspecting commercial swimming pools to ascertain compliance with the Texas Pool Rules.
- Performs vector control activities by completing surveillance on mosquitoes with light traps; collecting mosquitoes; investigating complaints; spraying adulticide; and putting out larvicide.
- Completes cross connection inspections by using gauges; and inspecting backflow devices to determine compliance with Rules for Public Drinking Water Systems.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Experience in environmental sampling skills and mosquito control highly preferred. Ability to swim and to work outside in adverse weather conditions.
- Valid Texas Class C Driver's License
- Ability to obtain Class D Water License within 6 months
- Possessing a Class D Water and/or Wastewater License from the TCEQ is highly preferred.
