What are the responsibilities and job description for the Landfill Equipment Operator position at City of Grand Prairie?
The purpose of this position is to provide construction and maintenance support to the landfill and convenience areas as well as community events. This includes but is not limited to activities such as brush-pile management, roll-off container delivery to working face and to community, road sweeping, dust control with water truck, stockpiling dirt, concrete, wood, and aggregate material. Additionally, involves palletizing, loading, and unloading materials off of tractor trailer trucks and other duties as assigned. Requires significant interaction with other employees and residents of the City. An equipment operator in Solid Waste/Recycling/Landfill may work in any area of the landfill, or in areas of Solid Waste/Recycling responsibility in the community.
- Load and unload materials by operating equipment including, but not limited to track loaders, rubber tire loaders, compactors, roll-off truck, hook-lift truck, water truck and street sweeper.
- Maintain concrete roadways, as well as gravel roads, throughout the landfill by removing mud, sweeping, and dust control.
- Loading of metals for recycling, moving mulch, recycled dirt and aggregate and maintaining stockpiles, pushing brush, wood, concrete, and dirt with a front-end loader.
- Provide waste screening and traffic control by directing traffic at the worksite to provide for customer and employee safety and environmental compliance.
- Performs preventative maintenance by greasing equipment, cleaning filters, checking all fluids, inspecting undercarriage and tracks and cleaning equipment.
- All other duties as assigned by the Senior Facility Staff.
- Fire suppression support, such as moving dirt stockpiles, utilizing water truck, hydro seeder, refueling trailer and motor grader.
- All other duties as assigned by a supervisor/manager within your department/division.
- Regular and dependable attendance is required.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required for consideration.
- Experience: One year of experience required to be considered. Experience may be direct experience in Asphalt, Drainage or Concrete OR related experience which may include work typically outdoors including use of tools and/or machinery, construction work, warehouse work using forklifts or other similar type experience.
- Licenses: Valid Class B CDL Driver's License or must be able to obtain license within 180 days (6 months) of employment
