Satisfactory completion of the associated management-provided checklist results in appointment to Tree Trimmer I position. The purpose of this position is to perform manual and semiskilled work in the forestry field and maintenance operations. The work is designed for entry-level employees to gain in-depth experience in forestry work and tree care maintenance. The work is performed generally in the parks and recreation/forestry department but will be used to assist other maintenance areas as needed. Work is performed under the general supervision of the City Forester with guidance and direction from a lead worker or a more experienced employee.

- Assist in the removal, trimming, pruning, and integrative management of city trees using specialized equipment, hand and power tools
- Provides ground support and assists in the tree trimming to ensure adequate clearance for overhead utilities
- Assist in the removal of split and damaged limbs from storm-damaged trees; Remove limbs from power lines, and trees and limbs that have fallen into streets, onto cars, and buildings
- Assist in planting trees and removing stumps and roots.
- Operates a variety of equipment and performs general routine maintenance on equipment such as standard power and hand tools and specialized equipment, such as chain saws, chippers, stump cutters, mobile aerial towers, hoppers, and the like; records measurements and other data
- Participate in various aspects of tree work
- High School Diploma or equivalent GED
- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and/or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities
Required Licenses or Certifications
- Possession of a valid Michigan commercial driver's license or ability to obtain within six months

Salary : $34,597 - $46,963
