POSITION SUMMARY
The City of Grandview is accepting applications for a Full Time Park Maintenance Worker I within the Parks Services Division. This position will perform semi-skilled landscaping, construction, maintenance and repair tasks related to park development and maintenance. Hours may vary with typical work occurring M-F 7:30-4:30, a variety of schedules are possible throughout the year including weekend work. Winter season involves snow removal which could involve weekends and holidays.
Job Responsibilities (Include, but not limited to)
- Designs, Mows grass, trims shrubs and trees
- Picks up litter and garbage
- Cleans buildings and facilities, restrooms, landscape areas, playground equipment, bleachers, picnic tables and shade structures, and shelters
- Watering and weeding flower beds
- Participates in the upkeep of public parks, parkways, buildings, grounds and other landscaped areas
- Performs customer service duties, including assisting visitors, set up, operation and take down of event equipment and supplies
- Assists in ensuring a safe environment for visitors and general public. Identifies safety hazards and informs supervisor of hazards. Recommends and takes corrective action
- Removes snow from walkways and driveways utilizing hand shovel and/or snow blower. Assists in City emergency operations, including snow removal as required
- May be required to obtain specialized certificates and/or attend classes associated with maintenance work
- Cleans and maintains tools and equipment used on the job
- Observes safety rules and attends required safety courses
- Performs routine manual labor
- Dragging, lining, setting bases and other athletic field work
- Post shelter house rentals
- May provide functional direction to seasonal employees
- All other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
No specific training or experience is needed to qualify for this level. Must be at least 18 years of age (experience in grounds/park maintenance is a plus); have a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. Must have the ability to follow directions, learn quickly and be a self-starter. Must successfully pass a background check and employer provided drug screen.
Physical Demands
Work is performed primarily outside with exposure to extreme temperatures. Employee may be exposed to varying noise levels in the environment such as noise from recreational programs, noise from operating vehicles, equipment and/or tools. Heavy work requires the employee to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally or up to 50 pounds frequently. Physical demand requirements include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping and feeling. Employee must have visual acuity to perform frequent reading, be able to utilize measuring devices and ability to distinguish color and depth vision. Employee must use hands for tools, machinery and for writing or typing. Employee must hear and talk with others, either in person or on the phone, to communicate information and ideas. Work requires communication with coworkers, and interacting with the public.
Pay
$17.00 hourly.
