What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager of Heritage Museums and Educational Programs position at City of Grapevine?
Under limited direction, the Manager of Heritage Museums and Education Programs manages and leads all development, educational and specialized activities at the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (CVB) owned museums and historic sites and their staffing. This includes the development of appropriate uses of all structures as well as animal and agricultural programs.
1. Manages and develops the daily operation and visitor experience of museums, historic sites and heritage attractions. These include Nash Farm, Settlement to City Museums, Cotton Belt Railroad Depot Museum, Millican Black Smith Shop, Section Foreman House, Bragg House and McPherson Barn.
2. Develops and manages the education programs, workshops and classes to include school tour programs.
3. Develops and manages the public programming to include special events and activities.
4. Manages and develops souvenir sales at sites to include the Nash Farm Store and Millican Blacksmith Shop.
5. Manages and develops the Farmhand program at Nash Farm and additional volunteer programs at other locations to include all ages of volunteers.
6. In conjunction with others in the division, leads the direction of the marketing plan and public relations to include managing the social media outlets and gives public presentations as needed.
7. Maintains and develops relationships with sponsors and donors to include annual fundraising event for Nash Farm.
8. Manages museum curatorial needs, including researching, locating and acquiring period-appropriate artifacts and reproductions to enhance and create exhibits.
9. In conjunction with Division Director, maintains a maintenance program for all structures, to include projects for further development.
10. Coordinates Heritage Tourism programming opportunities in conjunction with other divisions within the CVB.
11. In conjunction with Division Director, supervises, directs, evaluates and schedules assigned full-time and part-time staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
12. Manages, develops, and oversees staffing for the multi-site visitor experience programs including, but not limited to, those during major summer and Christmas events.
13. Assist other employees in the Historic Preservation division of the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau as required.
14. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
15. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
16. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.
17. Works irregular hours and schedules as needed for special events and programs.
18. On occasion, may perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to, lifting/moving up to 40 lbs., walking up and down steps, climbing ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, move tables and stack chairs.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge of farm equipment and ability to operate such equipment both historic and modern.• Knowledge of Texas plants, ecosystems and farming practices.
• Knowledge of museum and historic site operations, particularly historic houses and living history museums preferred.
• Ability to organize and supervise diverse types of events and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to operate a personal computer and make general mathematical calculations.
• Possess excellent people skills in order to promote goodwill with vendors and fellow employees.
• Ability to deal with others in a tactful, clear and concise manner.
• Must possess strong management, planning and organizational skills, good written and oral communication skills, ability to enforce policies and procedures, making mature judgements.
• Flexibility to work weekends, extended and irregular hours and schedules.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in museum management and education programs, living history programs, history, education, historic preservation or related discipline, plus two years of management experience in museum management, historic site, heritage facility, education programs, living history programs, history, education, historic preservation or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Experience working with volunteers and the public required.
Knowledge of 19th century skills, trades and farm operations preferred.
Experience developing volunteer programs, budgets, fund raising, supervisory and skills training are highly desirable.
Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check and credit check. Must have a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, and functional assessment screening (Level 2).

Salary : $65,402 - $94,833
