Responsible for providing fitness instruction to participating members of the Scheels Aim High Big Sky Aquatics and Recreation Center. Work is performed under the supervision of the Fitness and Sport Coordinator or Aquatics Coordinator.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a valid Montana driver’s license.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a group/class setting at the Scheels Aim High Big Sky Aquatics and Recreation Center. Aquatic classes will be taught in the lap or recreation pool, instructors may teach from the deck or in the water. Fitness classes will be taught in a program room or portion of gym.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, crawl, twist, reach, ride and perform similar body movements. Must have the ability to perform moderate physical work and to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at a time; the possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate a computer and a motor vehicle; the ability to talk and hear in person or by telephone; and the ability to see and read instructions and reports.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
The work schedule varies. This position is a non-exempt position and is eligible for overtime. Any overtime must be authorized by a supervisor prior to working. Classes will be held early mornings to late evenings, and weekends.
TRAVEL
Travel is primarily local during the business day. Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
- Assists in developing and implementing fitness programs for dryland and/or aquatics.
- Responsible for verification of membership and tracking attendance of fitness program participants for each class for accurate representation
- Reviews and adjusts class proposals to meet the demands of memberships and guests to continue to grow and provide quality fitness programs
- Communicates knowledgeably with patrons and staff, both verbally and in writing.
- Monitors facility and surrounding area to ensure safe and proper conduct; reports safety or hazard concerns to supervisors.
- Promotes their classes as well as other programs offered at Scheels Aim High Big Sky at events and facility special events.
- Sets up classroom or gym space prior to each class with equipment, music and other variables to ensure class starts on time and with the adequate equipment.
- Meet’s quarterly with the Sport and Fitness Coordinator for class and instructor evaluations.
- Certified in CPR and First aide
- Certified Group Fitness Instructor- preferred
- Certified AEA Aquatics Instructor- preferred
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a valid Montana driver’s license.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of group fitness programs.
- Ability to enforce policy rules and regulations and warn users of existing safety hazards.
- Ability to manage conflicts or disputes arising in a calm and appropriate manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
