Job Summary:
The City of Greeley Recreation is looking for certified Group Fitness Instructors to join our growing team. We are looking for instructors who can teach a variety of formats including Aqua Fitness, MindBody (Yoga/Pilates), Cycling, SilverSneakers, Dance Fitness, Strength and Aerobic-Style Training. Instructors are responsible for leading safe, effective, and motivating group fitness classes for community members.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
Minimum Requirements
- One to Two (1-2) years customer service experience.
- Nationally Accredited Group Fitness Certification required: ACE, AFAA, ISSA, NETA, and/or Nationally Recognized Specialty Certification deemed appropriate for the class format.
- Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid Certification required: American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Preferred
- Two (2) years of Group Fitness instruction preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to design an effective class based on the format and participant needs.
- Demonstrate the knowledge of proper group fitness components: warm-up, aerobic conditioning and strength, flexibility, and cool-down segments.
- Ability to communicate proper form and usage of fitness equipment.
- Ability to provide exercise modifications and progressions for a wide variety of abilities.
- Effective knowledge and understanding of cuing and musicality.
- Ability to uniquely motivate and build rapport with class participants to provide a safe and welcoming environment.
- Interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate interaction, communication, and teamwork between others.
- Oral, written, and listening communication skills, including the ability to accurately interpret what others are saying and convey messages, information, concepts, and details accurately and clearly.
- Organizational skills, including the ability to set and meet goals and deadlines, manage appointments, create schedules, coordinate and facilitate meetings, and make decisions.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple concurrent and competing tasks and responsibilities, and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining personal effectiveness.

Essential Functions:
- Responsible for design and delivery of group fitness classes on the weekly schedule.
- Keeps accurate record of class attendance.
- Willingness to cross-train in other group fitness formats.
- Serves as a role model to staff and participants as it relates to personal fitness, etiquette and safety.
- Provides a friendly, inclusive, service-oriented environment for staff and participants.
- Provides positive relations and policy education to participants.
- Maintains familiarity of Greeley Recreation functions including risk management procedures, membership information, basic operational practices, and understanding of programs and services.
- Responds to all injuries and assists in immediate emergency procedures.
- Keeps group fitness studios and closet areas clean and organized.
- Maintains NCCA Group Fitness or specialty certification and CPR/AED/First Aid certifications per industry standards.
- Personal commitment to pursuing continuing education and advanced understanding of fitness, nutrition, and wellness industry standards.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work Environment
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts while performing job responsibilities.
- Occasionally loud noise levels within the recreation facilities.
- Workdays can extend from early mornings to late evenings, as well as weekends and holidays.
- Variable Hour Position: employees are expected to work less than 30 hours average per week.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Physical effort required including, but not limited to, lifting weights, squatting, bending, reaching, spotting, and prolonged standing and walking.
