Salary Range: $18.40 - $23.00 Hourly
Job Summary:
Join the City of Greeley’s Water Quality Program as a seasonal intern, working up to 40 hours per week. The Water Quality Intern will play a vital role in assisting with distribution system and source water quality monitoring for regulatory compliance, customer concerns, and drinking water treatment optimization. Additional responsibilities include performing field and laboratory quality control and quality assurance procedures, assisting with laboratory analysis needs for the Source Water Monitoring Program, and performing data entry and reporting activities.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and experience with spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software.
- Ability to visualize and analyze data using basic statistics.
- Ability to read maps and navigate to sampling sites within the City of Greeley.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; including interpersonal relations skills.
- Attention to detail, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent customer service and public relations skills.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and safety procedures.
- Emotional intelligence and professionalism are required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in environment science, chemistry, biology, or related field preferred.
- Experience with water quality field analysis or in a water quality laboratory, or a closely related combination of experience and education is preferred.
- Familiarity with Colorado Primary Drinking Water Regulations and laboratory instrumentation preferred.
- Ability to communicate in Spanish preferred.
- Experience with GIS
Essential Functions:
- Coordinate with the Water Quality Technician on regulatory compliance sampling, including lead and copper, disinfection byproducts, chlorites, and chlorine residual analysis.
- Maintain inventory of equipment, reagents, and standards.
- Handle customer inquiries regarding drinking water quality, investigate complaints, and compose result notification reports.
- Assist in calibration and maintenance of a variety of equipment, including ProDSS YSI Sonde, Hach HQ4200 Multimeter Probe, Hach DR900, Hach Colorimeter II, Kemio Heavy Metals.
- Record and maintain accurate data.
- Assist in projects and programs as directed.

Work Environment:
- Perform work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Subject to driving City vehicle in all weather conditions.
- Subject to working alone, with contractors, with groups, and/or attending meetings.
- May be required to conduct business in alternate locations within City buildings or field sites, in informal and formal settings.
Physical Requirements:
- Communication skills enough to convey data and results verbally or in writing to a supervisor, co-workers, and file documentation.
- Sufficient vision to interpret data displayed on computer monitor, instrumentation, controllers, graphs, and gages; and to inspect and audit instrumentation for compliance and quality control.
- Position requires twisting, bending/stopping, walking on uneven surfaces, standing, sitting for prolonged periods, climbing stairs, collecting samples, lifting/moving items up to 30 pounds, moving equipment in and outdoors, computer and data entry, and making repetitive motions.
- Manual dexterity to operate pipettes, burets, probes, meters, and other testing equipment.
