Job Summary:
The City of Greeley is seeking a Lift Station Technician to join the Wastewater Collection team of the Water & Sewer Department. The Lift Station Technician reports to the Wastewater Collection Crew Supervisor. The successful candidate will be responsible for the oversight and maintenance of sewer lift stations on a daily basis which includes, inspection, trouble shooting, repair, preventative maintenance, creating/completing workorders, ordering and installing replacement parts, responding to emergencies and customer complaints. The Lift Station Technician will serve as a team leader in a variety of situations.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid and unrestricted driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Working knowledge of City geography required.
- Colorado Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). With the ability to obtain a Class A within ix (6) months of hire.
- Colorado State Wastewater Collection System Operator 1 Certification, and the ability to obtain Collection 2 Certification within two (2) years of hire.
- Advanced vocational skills strengthened by at least three (3) to Five (5) years of on-the-job experience in wastewater collection, lift station operations and maintenance.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience repairing and maintaining sanitary sewer lift stations.
- Experience with SCADA and software related remote monitoring programs.
OR
- A combination of education, experience, licensure, and certifications that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the job responsibilities may be considered by the hiring authority.
- Must be available and able to commit to being on-call as part of a rotational schedule, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be willing to respond to after-hour emergencies within 45 minutes, even if not on call.
Preferred
- Specialized training beyond high school normally gained in a program of less than 18 months duration preferred but not required.
- Colorado State Class 2 Wastewater Collection Certification.
- One (1) year of experience with SCADA, ArcGIS Pro and Field Maps.
- Previous experience of confined space entry.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of or familiarity with CityWorks software, and the ability to enter work orders into CityWorks software.
- Working knowledge of operations and maintenance of wastewater collection systems, lift stations, construction of water and sewer infrastructure, confined space entry procedures, trench safety, traffic control best practices.
- Knowledge of utility locating.
- Ability to prioritize projects to enhance productivity.
- Ability to operate all the Division inventory of equipment proficiently and safely.
- Examples: Loader, grader, backhoe, track hoe, single and tandem axle dump trucks, semi-tractor trailer, small cranes, jet trucks, tv inspection unit.

Essential Functions:
- Responds to and reports emergency repairs, routine maintenance, and customer questions/complaints.
- Assists with sewer outages when need.
- Follows proper safety practices, procedures, and fellow team members, i.e., work zone setup, traffic control, personal protective equipment, etc. Makes safety suggestions as appropriate.
- Safely operates and maintains a variety of equipment.
- Trains team members on the operation, maintenance, and safety of equipment.
- Completes paperwork accurately, i.e., work orders, time sheets, etc.
- Works independently and as part of a team.
- Effectively communicates in verbal and written form with citizens, supervisor, team members, and other City employees.
- Understands and follows City, department and division policies and procedures.
- Uses good judgment in decisions regarding the operation of equipment and maintenance activities.
- Answers citizens’ questions, responds to their complaints and notifies citizens of impending work, i.e., hands out flyers, assists with traffic control.
- Responds to overtime work and after-hours calls at all times. Participate as an on-call person.
- Solves a variety of problems in situations where there are substantially diversified procedures, specialized standards, and only limited standardization exists.

- Equipment Operation - Basic operations in loaders, backhoes, graders, track hoe, tandem and single axle dump trucks, semi-tractor trailer.
- Required to be on-call for emergencies on a rotational basis.
- Participates in mandatory and voluntary training - City required, proper traffic control, defensive driving, hazardous material, confined space, seminars, videos, workshops, and conferences.
- Requires reasoning to produce a practical course of action within the established process. Choices fall within the range of specified, acceptable standards, alternatives, and technical practices. Example(s): If a change is required that needs upper management approval before start/completion of a project; work with Project Manager, Asset Manager, Water & Sewer manager and Crew Supervisors, employees, as well as other departments to ensure proper operations and procedures are being followed.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Travel: This position is primarily spent in the field up to 85% of a daily schedule within City limits; may travel to worksites in the Northern Colorado area a few times per year or to attend training conferences.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Frequently works in an outdoor environment subject to severe weather conditions, extreme heat and cold.
- Frequently works in and around equipment, traffic and materials with fumes, noise, dust, dirt, heat, vibration, and flying objects.
- Frequently works in or around equipment in potentially dangerous situations, i.e., traffic, work zones, steep ditch banks, manholes, and/or confined spaces, trenches, overhead/underground utilities, snow, and ice-covered streets, etc.
- Responds to overtime work and after-hour calls, particularly during emergencies and inclement weather.
- Frequently work with objects weighing up to 15 pounds. Regularly work with objects weighing 30-50 pounds, and occasionally work with objects weighing 50-100 pounds in various positions such as pushing, pulling, lifting in various body positions including above shoulder height.
- Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions. Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs.) and use of medium weight tools.
- Manual dexterity enough to complete work tasks through safe and proper operation of hand tools, power tools, motorized equipment, and confined space entry.
- Move equipment and/or materials safely over uneven surfaces and terrain.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, climbing, pushing, pulling, reaching, etc.
- Vision and hearing abilities are required to operate a variety of light equipment in traffic and in work zones.
- Equipment Used: Loader, backhoe, excavator, sewer cleaning equipment, tv inspection unit, single/tandem axle dump trucks, semi-tractor with trailer, two-way radio, computers, computerized/automated equipment controls, gas detection monitors, tripod and harness for confined space entry and radio detection equipment.
- Dangerous to considerable hazards reflect a frequent exposure to conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury.
- Example(s): Traffic during all maintenance repairs in right-of-way. Being aware of your surroundings during heavy equipment operations. Working in adverse weather conditions. Use caution while working in right-of-way. Utilize flaggers when working in traffic and right-of-way. Working around power lines, confined space, and working in trenches.
