The City of Greeley in compliance with Colorado state law, includes a salary range for all positions posted.  This law is intended to improve wage transparency.  The City of Greeley, in support of wage transparency, posts both the full salary range for each position (what you might anticipate your earnings could be if you work for the City of Greeley for some time), as well as the anticipated hiring range (the range within which the City anticipates making an offer).  The actual offer extended will be based on your years of relevant experience, education, certifications and potentially other factors.

**These positions are term-limited positions funded for approximately 18 months from date of hire, with the possibility of becoming permanent if additional funding is approved at a later date.  These positions are eligible for full-time benefits.

Job Summary:

This position supports the installation and maintenance of all sizes of water meters in the city of Greeley, to accurately record usage. Address and resolve all customer concerns and issues with their meter or water system.  Must have good customer service skills.   

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.  
  • 6 months - 1 year of experience as a field services representative or experience in a related field and/or a combination of education and experience. 
  • Basic knowledge of tools and water utility equipment maintenance.  
  • Current and active driver license.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to easily acclimate to modified schedules and shifts. Will need to be on-call periodically. 
  • Accustomed to using mobile electronic computers, smart phones and applications.  
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and operate single-purpose power tools/machines or equipment.  
  • Entry level knowledge of complex software; may be asked to prepare routine reports or correspondence.  
  • Sound decision-making ability to assess and determine routes for shut offs and turn-ons and daily duties to make time spent more efficiently. Appropriate judgment to determine if a situation is safe or needs further assessment. Good customer relations.   
  • Knowledge of the business and organizational structure of Colorado municipalities.
  • Collaboration skills, including the ability to work with others from different areas and backgrounds to reach a common goal. 
  • Computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and learn and experiment with new software and systems.
  • Interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate interaction, communication, and teamwork between others.
  • Oral, written, and listening communication skills, including the ability to accurately interpret what others are saying and convey messages, information, concepts, and details accurately and clearly.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform troubleshooting and resolve issues with meters. 
  • Operate city vehicle in a safe manner and use field automation systems.  
  • Adhere to City's given rules and regulations.  
  • Discern customer needs and offer advice or recommendations.  
  • Formulate trusting relationships with customers.  
  • Operate efficiently to conclude all on site installations, repair, maintenance, and test activities.  
  • Test, repair, install, and replace meters; this includes reporting and investigating water service diversions.  
  • Daily work involves use of Meter Reader, smart phone, computer tablet/laptop, Microsoft Outlook, and City vehicle.  
  • Administer shut-off notices in the order of choice with the freedom to approach projects and order of completion to make the best use of time and efficiency to meet scheduled completion dates.  
  • Replace defective meter endpoints.
  • Monitor high-low consumption and high-low pressure, read meters, and perform service calls.  
  • Check for leaks & help customers narrow down where leaks could be. 
  • Occasionally shut off water for delinquent accounts. 

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Subject to driving City vehicles in ALL weather conditions.  
  • May be asked to drive personal vehicle for business purposes.  
  • Subject to working alone, with groups, and/or attending meetings.  
  • May be required to conduct business in alternate locations within City buildings or field sites, sometimes in formal settings.  
  • May be required to work overtime, holidays, evenings, shifts, or weekends. Especially when on call. 
  • May have frequent interruptions, be required to multi-task, and have inflexible deadlines.  
  • Will have frequent contact with the public--in person, via email/telephone, sometimes facing adverse or confrontational situations with internal/external customers.  
  • Communication skills to interface with other departments and agencies.  
  • The essential functions of this job require good hearing and repetitive motion; moderate to heavy physical effort that requires, sitting, talking and carrying/lifting heavy objects, crouching, feeling, reaching, standing, and walking.  
  • To execute meter shut offs and turn-ons, may require kneeling and/or bending to access meter as at times there is rock, debris, etc., that must be removed from the meter pit for access. 
  • Will also need to access large meter vaults.  Using steps to climb inside vault.  Will need to always monitor air quality.   
  • Must use safety equipment to enter vaults that will be confined spaces. 
  • Employees are required to have visual acuity for close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  
  • Manual dexterity enough to operate computer keyboards, other office equipment, and to complete paperwork.
