Job Summary: This position is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the volunteer program within the city museums to support the operational needs of the museum system. The Museums Volunteer Coordinator serves as the volunteer recruiter, orienteer, scheduler, and reporter of hours and activities, The position leads the volunteer steering committee and is also responsible for volunteer and policy handbook updates along with other similar duties as assigned.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
Minimum Requirements
- Current certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire required.
- Experience and knowledge of computer operations and use of software packages such as Microsoft 365.
- 6 months experience in recruitment and management of volunteers in a community or non-profit organization.
Preferred
- 1 year of experience in recruitment and management of volunteers in a community or non-profit organization.
- 6 months of experience in volunteer program policy and procedure creation and/or maintenance.
- Experience with Microsoft Access Database Systems
- Experience with Collections Management Software
- Spanish/English bilingual skills desired

Essential Functions:
- Act as volunteer coordinator, communicating via phone, email, and online messaging systems with potential and current volunteers.
- Ensure volunteer compliance with museum policies and procedures that define roles and responsibilities.
- Work with Museum staff to plan for and schedule volunteers for a variety of programs, events, and activities in a variety of settings.
- Assist with setup/programming/cleanup for special events as required.
- Assist with volunteer recruitment drive.
- Organize volunteer recognition events and trainings in partnership with other museum staff.
- Create and update volunteer policies, procedures, incentives, and forms.
- Track and report volunteer hours and activities and contribute information to reports as requested.
- Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Work Environment
- Frequent and intensive interaction with museum volunteers and some museum visitors in diverse weather conditions.
- Occasional outdoor work, requiring resilience in adverse weather.
- Travel to other museum outreach programs and community events as required.
Physical Requirements
- Physical ability to move, bend, twist, and stoop as needed.
- Stamina for prolonged periods of activity, including wearing historical clothing.
- Adequate vision to perform job-related tasks.
- Effective hearing and speech capabilities to communicate with large groups ranging from 1 to 100 people.
